简介:
The inorganic reactions occurred along the interface of W/O/W emulsion produce some spherical hollow particles and other related ones. The simple reactions of sodium silicate and acids forming silica matrix fabricate hollow spherical structure of amorphous silica, called as "microcapsule". The spontaneous formation of hollow structure provides the direct encapsulation of additional components into the micro particles. Not only silica microcapsules but also calcium carbonate ones are obtained and applied to the direct encapsulation. Some biomacromolecules can be included in the microcapsule materials as well. As these encapsulated biomacromolecules were not released without the fracture of the inorganic shells, these materials are advantageous to various biomedical utilizations.

The addition of polymer salts such as sodium polymethacrylate to the sodium silicate solution fabricated characteristic silica shells, whose structures are analogous to natural diatom earth. The structure of macroholes in silica shell was controlled by added polymers. The addition of inorganic salts and related materials to the sodium silicate also produced another kind of structure of silica shells, which have unique high reflection properties.
