  Prof. Zhiqiang Mao is the chair of the Dept. of Physics and Engineering Physics and the Nicholas J. Altiero professor in Physics, Tulane University. Prof. Mao received his Ph.D. degree in 1992 at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He was then appointed as a research assistant in Structure Research Laboratory at USTC where he became research fellow in 1995. In 2002, he joined the Department of Physics of Tulane University, as an assistant professor, where he became associate professor in 2007 and professor in 2009. Prof. Mao obtained fund supports from the Chinese National Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Scientists in 1996 and “Qiu Shi” award in 1997. He has distinguished himself as an outstanding academician, earning both the Tulane University Presidential Early Career Development and the Cottrell Scholar award in 2005 and the National Science foundation Career Award in 2007. Prof. Mao’s research mainly focuses on strongly correlated oxides in recent years. The major objective of his research is to seek novel quantum phenomena in bulk perovskite ruthenates using high quality single crystals, investigate their underlying physics, and explore their potential applications. He has published more than 230 papers in the refereed impacted international journals. The total citation count of his publications have exceeded 5500 with   H-index = 36 (from Web of Knowledge); 24 in PRLs, 4 in Nature, 1 in Nature Materials, 1 in Nature Communications, 1 in Science, 1 in Scientific Report, 65 in PRB.
