  报告摘要:

  The discovery of new classes of materials with new functionalities or significantly improved performance has been a driving force in the advancement of modern science and technology, and in the improvement of our daily lives. We are now in an era of discovery of new materials, new physics, and new devices. This is the trend in the race represented by scientific research worldwide. This presentation will address the latest progress on the discovery of new class of advanced functional materials, and the discovery of their new phenomena and new devices. Novel approaches for designing new types of functional materials developed in my team over the years for novel electronic and multi-functional properties will be discussed based on re-design or new freedom of band structures, crystal structures, functionalities, and new space dimensions. New physics and potential applications in spintronics, electronics, multiferroics on a number of novel gapless semiconductors, topological insulators, novel three dimensional Dirac gapless materials and other new types of zero gap materials will be addressed. Some of our experimental results on their fascinating physical properties such as observation of Josephson supercurrent through a topological insulator surface state, room temperature giant magnetoresistance, and excellent high temperature thermoelectric performance in these materials will be presented. A brief introduction on the other research activities in fields of superconductors, multiferroics, magnetism, thermoelectric materials, energy materials, special wettability in our team and Institute will also be given.

  报告人简介:

  王晓临,博士,澳籍华人,山东大学物理系学士,山东大学固体物理与晶体材料专业硕士,2000年获澳大利亚卧龙岗大学(University of Wollongong)材料学专业博士学位,先后到奥地利大学,日本材料科学国家研究所(National Institute for Material Science)和美国俄亥俄州立大学(Ohio State University)作访问研究,现为澳大利亚卧龙岗大学超导与电子材料研究所副所长,高级教授,自旋电子与电子材料组组长。研究领域为材料及性能的创新设计与研究,材料包括自旋电子学及相关材料、拓扑材料,铁磁体、多铁材料、超导材料、热电材料、等新型功能材料设计及结构与性能试验和理论研究。自2002年以来,王晓临教授在这些领域获各类澳大利亚国家科学基金项目超过二十多项,资助超千万澳元,发表学术论文200余篇,发表论文被引用累计超过4600余次,获澳大利亚政府伊丽莎白女王二世学者和澳洲政府未来(教授级)学者称号。近年来多次担任国际学术会议大会或分会主席并作大会特邀报告,现担任很多著名杂志的评审人。
