  Dr. Lam is currently an Assistant Professor in Department of Electrical Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPolyU). He received M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Physics from the HKPolyU in 2002 and 2006, respectively. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow on vibration control applications of smart materials in Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKPolyU from 2007 to 2009. Meanwhile, he was a visiting scholar in Stanford University and got involved in an international project (collaborated between HKPolyU, Stanford University, University of Michigan, and Georgia Institute of Technology) to perform wireless ambient vibration monitoring on an in–construction supertall structure. He then joined the NIH Resource Center for Medical Ultrasonic Transducer Technology at the University of Southern California and engaged in ultrahigh frequency (>200 MHz) ultrasonic transducers development.  

  Dr. Lam has been working in the field of smart materials and applications including multifunctional smart materials, smart sensor and actuator technology, ultrasound transducer technology, condition and structural health monitoring, biomedical and non-destructive applications of ultrasonic transducers. He has achieved 100+ publications, including 5 granted patents for 4 inventions, 90+ SCI journal papers, and 10+ international conference papers. Dr. Lam was awarded an Early Career Scheme Award of Research Grants Council (RGC). His contribution on ultrasonic device technology has been published on an authoritative monograph in Progress in Materials Science and an invited review in Sensors. Dr. Lam is a member of the IEEE Society and the American Chemical Society. He is also an Exco Member of IEEE Hong Kong Joint Chapter of PES/IAS/PELS/IES. He has served as a reviewer for over 25 prestigious international SCI journals.
