Abstract: The basic physical principles of sintering of transparent ceramics will be reviewed. The special attention would be given to stability of polycrystalline microstructure, the physical processes occurring at different sintering stages, as well as on removing the residual pores. General problems of reactive sintering will be presented in brief. The effect of thermodynamically stable interfacial states (grain boundaries, hetero-phase boundaries, surfaces, etc.) on formation of pore-free microstructure will be reported.

Dr. Roman Yavetskiy was born on April 13, 1977, in Kharkov, Ukraine. He graduated from Kharkov State Polytechnic University, Ukraine. In 2006 he defended Ph.D. Thesis in Phys. and Math. at Institute for Single Crystals, NAS of Ukraine (Solid State Physics). In 2017 he becomes Doctor of Sciences in Material Sciences, Institute for Single Crystals, NAS of Ukraine. He works at Institute for Single Crystals, NAS of Ukraine from 2000. Now he is Leading Researcher of Department of Crystalline Materials of Complex Compounds. Current research activity of Roman Yavetskiy is devoted to fabrication of oxide nanopowders; solid-state sintering of nanopowders; studying the structural-phase state of oxide optical ceramics, (rare-earth doped Y2O3, Lu2O3, Y3Al5O12, etc.); as well as to fabrication of nanostructured ceramics via transformation-assisted consolidation of nanopowders. He was Project Leader of a number of domestic Projects, as well as bilateral international Projects. He is an author of 68 papers published in International journals.
